Well Rested

July 21, 2008 By: Runner Leana

I’ve been working hard on getting to bed a bit earlier (i.e. 10 or 10:30) and it seems to be paying off. I’ve been waking up before my alarm most days now. This morning I was up at 4:30 am. I enjoyed lounging in bed for a bit, then got up to check a couple of e-mails and drink some water. I was running by 5:15 am. Since I had a bit of extra time I opted for a 4 miler around the neighborhood and it was fantastic! I’m seeing definite improvements to my pace – most notably that I’m not slowing down on the uphills and my pace is staying fairly consistent. I showered, got dressed, threw the bike in the car and headed to Dalhousie to start my ride in to work. I’ve toodled around the neighborhood trying out the new shoes and pedals, but this was my first commute in with them. I am happy to report that I stayed upright the whole way and I felt a lot more efficient pedaling. We’ll see what happens on the ride home when it is mostly uphill the entire way…

What an efficient morning. Great job on keeping the pace consistent through the hills. I gotta learn to love the hills. Love your medals!!

Sometimes improvements can’t be seen in split times and paces, but they are “felt”. All of a sudden a hill isn’t as big as you remember it or you aren’t as tired after a workout.

You are doing a great job!
