A Total Body Disaster-fest

August 15, 2008 By: Runner Leana

Last night at boot camp was a total body workout night and we had to partner up for the exercises. I worked out with a girl who is training for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront marathon so we had a good time…griping. I’m not sure if I’m getting burned out on boot camp or if it was an off night but it felt like such a disaster. Anything that required coordination was a total gong show and I just felt like I was lacking energy or motivation…not sure. That being said though, we did a ridiculous amount of suicide sprint drills and I totally ate those up and did well on them.

I did get a terrific ride into work this morning and I’m looking forward to the ride home. It dawned on me that the nice days are going to run out pretty soon so I have to be sure to take advantage of it and try to ride my bike as often as possible. I’m thinking I’d probably like to get a trainer for the winter. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on what I should look for?

That’s just sad that your nice days are about to run out. We’ve got about four more months of nice…

I love my CycleOps Fluid 2. It’s quiet. You can simulate hills. I love it! Shop around online because I got mine for about $220 2 years ago, but I saw them as high as $350US.

also, get a block that goes under the front wheel because the trainer lifts the backwheel up a little bit. The blocks make the bike more level.

I have a the COF2 as well and very happy with it. I bought it used on craigslist so shop around. spin class is also nice for an indoor change when you have a great instuctor who rides on the road is also helpful too. I love the new pics on the header!

I’ve got a Cyclops Fluid 2, too. No complaints!

    Nice header!

I’m cutting and pasting what I posted on another person’s blog about trainers:

We have 3 bike trainers from Performance Bicycle. One is a fluid trainer (~$150) that has 5 levels of resistance and does a pretty good job of simulating speed-based resistance (the faster you go, the harder it is). The two others are magnetic trainers with just 3 levels of resistance ($90). All 3 are about the same loudness. If all you want to do is get a workout indoors, the basic one will do the job. If you really want to simulate outdoor riding indoors, get one of the better ones.

I have a fluid trainer also and love it. Don’t forget the DVDs to get you through the winter months. Sounds like you’re planning on really getting into this stuff.
