A Few Updates

February 9, 2009 By: Runner Leana

The weather was amazing outside today! There is still so much melting snow and gravel on the road that I’m a little hesitant to ride outside. Plus I still will need to swap out my rear tire before I take it outside now that the current one has been worn down a bit from the trainer.

Anyhow, I had a 70 minute spin workout on the schedule focusing on gear pyramids. Keep your cadence and increase the gearing. I did the workout in my big chain ring and it was hard!! This is probably the highest I’ve managed to get my heart rate up on one of my at home spinning workouts. I followed it up with a quick 15 minute run.

I set up part of Finlay’s crate in the garage with some pads and he kept me company the entire time. He definitely seemed a lot more comfortable curled up in his crate, and I really like the he wants to hang out while I’m spinning.
In the afternoon I stopped by Best Buy and picked up a small radio to dock my iPod into. This way I can play tunes, but I don’t have to worry about the earbuds falling out all the time. Because yeah…those stylish white earbuds are a pain when you work out!
In the evening I whipped up some Baked Penne with Sausage and Ricotta. The recipe suggests making your own ricotta since apparently it is pretty easy. I just bought mine from the store though. In the future I might try to jazz up the tomato sauce a bit more with a few more herbs, and some more garlic but it was a tasty dish! I served it with Tinhorn Creek‘s 2006 Cabernet Merlot from Oliver, BC. Delicious!

You can make your own ricotta cheese?! Who knew? Of course, as much as I love store bought, I’ll probably eat the whole batch with a spoon immediately after I make it. I wish I didn’t know all of this. Your dinner looks delicious.
