Edworthy Hill Climb Night

May 20, 2009 By: Runner Leana

Saturday and Sunday were amazing around here, but the weather completely turned yesterday. We are talking just about freezing and plenty of rain. Sigh… Angie was adamant that we would get some hill repeats in tonight. Rather than planning to meet in Cochrane we met at Edworthy Park in Calgary instead. This way if a downpour started we’d be closer to our cars.We headed across the river for a quick warm up, then went up and down the hill into Edworthy Park. Up and down, again and again. Luckily the rain held off for us, but it was chilly out.I felt good on the hills – but there are some definite strong climbers in the group that would pass me like I was standing still. So the hill repeats went well, but I can see plenty of room for improvement! 12.81 mi done, including 6 repeats, and 1827 ft of climbing.

After that it was time for a quick brick run. My toes felt somewhat frozen and like I was running on stumps. After about 8 minutes or so the blood was flowing to my feet and things started to feel normal. All in all, it was a great workout!

You know what we call that first set of hills around here…a Dolly Parton! Hahaha. Yep, whenever we hit a back to back hill like that it’s a Dolly;)

Great job, what a profile, ouch.

I did hill repeats last week AND had to keep my HR in Zone 3. Yea, that dust cloud was Sammy the Snail leaving me in the dust… all in the name of of thigh strength 🙂

That looks like an intense workout! Way to tough out the hills AND freezing weather.

We’re having a cold front come through so our highs are only in the lower 80s. How can it still be freezing there and still have people live there? Canadians are weird people…

Great job on the hills and brick though. I couldn’t do it.

Your hill repeats kicked the crap out of mine. Hands down. I’ll have to try that hill sometime. I think there’s a spot free in my calendar for 2011.

Hill repeats. Impressive, especially with the freezing temps. More power to you!

Interesting hills! And that sucks about the weather. Guess I’ll skip complaining about the wind cause at least it has been warm!

Great job on doing the bike work to end up with an elevation chart that looks like this! Glad your toes finally warmed up! I just think there’s something not right with toes freezing in mid May!
