Jinx!

May 6, 2009 By: Runner Leana

I speculated that last Tuesday night would be our final indoor spin. Looks like I jinxed myself! Some ugly clouds rolled through around 2:00 and we looked destined for a good storm. Just as I left work it started to rain, and just after I got home it started to hail!! Apparently the wind was wicked out in Cochrane, plus there was some lightning too which never makes for a good ride!

Angie e-mailed us a trainer workout so I set the bike up in the garage and hopped on. It was a tough one! There were all kinds of good exercises to simulate hill climbs and I tried to push hard. It is tough to work as hard at home compared to at class, but I think I did a good job today. By the time I was done the workout I was starving!!! Time to head in and throw together some dinner.

I also had a good swim this morning. I have been a bit hard on myself, thinking that I could not keep up the folks in my lane. Today it hit me – I can actually hang on to the toes of two other folks in the lane, there is just one guy who is super speedy that seems to get away from me. I think we are so quick to beat up on ourselves if we cannot meet whatever standard we have set (i.e. not getting dropped ever on the swim) versus seeing whatever progress we have made. So never fail to recognize what you have achieved!

As a total aside, the Biggest Loser just started up over here this evening. I CANNOT believe they are going to make them run a marathon!!!! Even making them run a half marathon seemed a bit mean since they had not trained for it, but a marathon is just ridiculous…if you ask me…

I usually don’t watch TBL, but you’re making me curious to see how they’d do!

Yeah, I questioned the marathon also. I think the show is staging some of these things.

At least if we get dropped in the pool, we can’t get lost;) That’s always my biggest fear on the bike in the middle of no where!

Bummer about the weather but good job on your own!! So right about beating oneself up about things that you don’t see the progress. I know I’m guilty of that at times.

And, seriously, they’re going to run a marathon untrained? I have never watched BL but think that has got to be a BAD idea…

I couldn’t believe they ran a marathon either. Crazy.

ya, i didn’t like the idea of them running a marathon on BL either! Wonder how many people will think “if they can do it, so can i” and just go out untrained themselves!!

I also thought it was pretty nuts that they were doing a marathon (and it seemed like Bob and Jillian thought the same thing). I wonder if any of them could walk the next day (and how Ron got up those weigh-in stairs)…

Hi Leana – good job with the swimming again! One day you’ll inspire me into the pool!

Is it the beginning of BL? Are they having them run being so overweight? What about their joints? I used to be about 40kgs overweight and my doctor wouldn’t let me run until I lost some because of the damage I could do! jeez!

Moving a workout indoors just means your are HTFU 🙂

They won’t be untrained. They workout six hours a day, under medical supervision.

Speedy guy can be your challenge for a while. Go catch’em!!

I don’t watch TBL but dang that’s nuts! I’m with Melanie, now how many nutsos are going to say “Hey I can sign up for a marathon too” GAH!

love what you said about being too quick to call ourselves out on failures and not noticing our improvements. very true!

hopefully you will get to be back outdoors soon!

Awesome job on the swim & bike workouts.

That’s a good point about not denying what we’re capable of.

Completely with you on the marathon. It really ticked me off that they were giving America the impression that you can train for and complete a marathon in 26 days… although, I suppose Mike’s injury at least somewhat proved them wrong. He just went out and ran as far as he could each day… real smart. And Ron almost ended up in the ER again!

For crying out loud, don’t think about Thursday! Please! Progress can be a slippery little thing. But you’re right, you have to celebrate it when it happens, even if you think you can do better. After all, if you don’t celebrate your life’s little triumphs, who else will?

the BL producers are just doing that to make up for the big fuck up they did with that one guy who caused so much drama.

i quit watching and supporting it.

    Nice job on the workouts!

I only caught the second half of TBL, but like everyone else, I can’t believe they were doing a marathon. And letting Ron finish after his stop in the tent where his blood pressure seemed like it was skyrocketing? Is that safe?

That was a crazy ep of the biggest loser! I am always scared of those spinning classes, afraid the instructor would be mean haha.

Woohooo on the swimming progress and getting the trainer ride in!

I agree w/you about The Biggest Loser. When they said Ron’s BP was something absurd like 220/90 I was like 😐 the man’s going to have a frickin’ heart attack. Not smart! I wish they had shown them trying to do things the next day such as going down stairs…
