A Premium

June 3, 2010 By: Runner Leana

Time.  During Ironman training time is a premium.

Initially you sign up for Ironman and it is a year away…you still have a lot of time.  Now my countdown timer is telling me that it is less than 90 days away.  Is it really June already?

It is now starting to feel like there is less and less time in the day.  I come home, look at my house and sigh.  My house needs a vacuum and I am slowly working my way through laundry.  Earlier this week I actually contemplated the idea of taking a day off of work so I could just stay home and clean my house up.  I truly admire people that train for an Ironman with spouses and families.

In order to give myself a bit more time in the evening I’m trying to get back in the groove of early morning workouts.  This morning I was up…somewhere around 4:40 am.  At the pool and in the water at 5:45 am.  I ran through a 2000 meter set and still made it into work before 8 am.  Tomorrow I have a 2 hour long run planned.  It sounds like the perfect opportunity for a 12.5 mile run from my house to the office.  Hopefully I’ll get into a groove and have more time and energy in the evening to keep things a little tidier around the house!  Of course part of the process does involve realizing that I can’t do everything so I may just wind up making friends with the dust bunnies around my place…

I made my peace with dust bunnies long ago, and settle for hunting only the largest and most ferocious of them.

Training for a marathon seems time consuming enough. I can’t even imagine finding the time for Ironman training. I say ignore the dust bunnies for post race when you’re bored bc you’re in recovery mode.

Having a support group does make a difference! Doing Ironman by yourself is a whole nutha dimension! Prioritizing is the key. 90 days. You are in the homestretch now…

Make friends with the dust bunnies for sure. There are some things that you can sacrifice and a perfectly clean house is one of them.

Last year, I managed to stay just ahead of the dust bunnies, this year, I’ve made peace with them. And you know what? It’s not such a bug deal after all! Life goes on, my friends and family still love me.

You live with the dust bunnies as Keith said and your friends will too. However, you should train Findlay to vacuum!

It is very hard to train as a single…I’m starting for the Half Iron and sometimes having someone to call is just not enough!

Keep up the great work Leana!!!

Good luck with the long run! I am sure once you finish the ironman you can clean up the dust bunnies!

Just push everything back into 4 week blocks…as in nothing gets done until a rest week in 4 weeks.

You know you’re close when you wake up and you are pedaling an dream bicycle.

Good luck and enjoy the training because you’ll miss it when it’s finished.

Woohoo for 90 days! I remember starting to stress when it was under 100. This is the big peak period and yes, it is a time suck. But you’ll find a way to make it work, we all do. Some things get put to the wayside but the important stuff will always get done. You’re entering the msot exciting phase of the process!!!!
