Mother Nature is letting us know that it is indeed November here in Calgary. Last week the weather turned cold! I brought my run gear to work last Monday and just before lunch snow started to fly. The first few runs in cold weather are always tough as you develop your “winter skin.” I was ready to wimp out thanks to a sky-full of errant snowflakes. Thankfully I had a bundle of run gear with me so there really was no excuse. I told myself to suck it up and go for a run.
Time to change!
I bundled up in a long sleeve tech shirt, a long sleeve mid-weight layer, a jacket, tights, wool socks, toque and gloves. I’m ready, let’s go!
It was about –4C and the sun was out. Very quickly I realized that I was way overdressed! I only ran for 3 miles but before I reached the halfway point I’d shed the jacket, hat and gloves. I got back to the office happy and somewhat red and shiny faced.
Unfortunately for the rest of the week I was so busy with work that the remainder of my workouts fell by the wayside. On the weekend it was super cold (think –20s) and I had zero desire to venture outside in that. I’ve pressed the reset button and what I planned to do last week is on the docket for this week.

What is your back to work routine to get rid of the run sweat? Did you post this before? I think you might have…
Leanna,
I used to run on my lunch hour. The cold doesn’t bother me, but it never gets really cold during the day. It’s the 110 degree Summer days that are killer. Its just not possible to run, cool down, shower and eat in one hour.
A few snow flakes falling sounds rather refreshing. You’re cute as ever red faced and all.
I went through my archives, convinced that I had written about this at some point. But I guess I didn’t! Honestly I have a membership to the gym in the basement so lately I’ve been taking a quick shower before going back to work. When it is cooler out I don’t get so stinky and sweaty. Baby wipes are awesome to keep in your filing cabinet or desk drawer, along with deodorant and potentially some body spray too. I find that those items tend to do the trick to making me presentable post lunch run.
