Last weekend I wanted to run 7.5 miles. Word from the weather forecasters was that there would be snow rolling through Calgary late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Since Friday would be a nicer day (and I had the day off of work for Remembrance Day) it seemed like the perfect day for a long run.
I met up with my friend Pam and her dog Tua for the run along the Bow River. Tua has a ton of energy and he loves to run! He also reminds me of Dug from Up:
Boy he really wants to get his paws on a squirrel! I think the squirrels were being extra mean and teasing Tua by running along right beside him.
We ran along the south side of the river, then crossed over to run along Memorial Drive. It also just happened to be right before 11 am on Remembrance Day. There were several events going on, including one at the field of crosses on Memorial Drive, a growing tribute to represent Albertan soldiers who have fallen since the Boer War.We continued on down Memorial Drive. Just after 11 we ran past Poppy Plaza. We stopped to observe the ceremony.
We ran a straightforward out and back and it was time to turn around before I knew it. Perfect timing to down a chocolate mint Gu.
The run felt great and our pace was pretty consistent the entire time. As for that snow on Saturday? It never materialized! I’m glad Pam and I were able to run together on Friday though. It was nice to observe the Remembrance Day ceremonies while we were on our run.
Sounds like a
Oops, got cut off there.
Sounds like a really nice run. The snow got totally delayed! I was expecting it to fall on Saturday and then make things icy for Sunday, but it didn’t, thank goodness!
sounds like a great run! the ceremonies would be a nice distraction, and provide some good stuff to think about.
(is the picture next to my comment really some one else?)
ok nm it corrected itself. but while i type a comment it is a totally different picture.
I set up a picture of my shoes in the snow to be my general guest (no disqus account) picture since the greyed out head was a little boring (and creepy). Maybe a picture of my shoes is just as creepy though?
You’re so impressive, Leana! Your run sounds amazing and so refreshing!
