WTF Happened to My Knee?

or

I Sure Hope My Jeans Weren’t the Only Thing I Tore This Weekend

(Seriously…my jeans after running errands on Saturday…how did this happen to my favourite Joe’s Jeans??)

So…my knee felt a little stiff on Sunday.  I did an indoor spin and kept the gearing easy.  I felt one quick itty bitty twinge and I decided to get off the bike.  On Monday I woke up to this:

Can you tell that my right knee is looking a little larger than my left?  How the heck did that happen?  I can’t really pinpoint anything that I did on the weekend that would have caused my knee to balloon like that.

I hobbled to my physiotherapist as soon as I could on Monday.  It is really hard to tell what is going on with so much swelling.  Considering I can’t pinpoint a specific trauma (aka slip/trip/fall) there is a chance that nothing is torn so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that.

The first thing is to get the swelling down.  Aleve or Advil as per package directions.  Ice for 10-20 minutes 3-4 times per day.  Do a simple exercise to help flush things out.  I can swim with a pull buoy but that is about it.  While I was there she did some electro-stimulation thing with ice that was pretty wild that would potentially help the swelling go down.

I’m trying not to worry since I don’t know what is wrong.  The swelling hasn’t gone down at all and I can barely hobble around though.  I walked to the mall at lunch and I felt like I needed flashing lights and a sign on my back that read:

So folks, keep your fingers crossed for me and send me as many swell-decreasing vibes as you can…
