I find it a little strange that I’m concerned about what I’m going to do after Ironman Canada considering my training has barely gotten off the ground for Ironman Canada. Needless to say I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.
Back in 2010 I totally fell off the wagon after IMC and I’m hoping to avoid that. I do want to have some downtime and avoid burnout, but I also want that motivating carrot on a stick to keep me moving.

First up, I’ll be running Melissa’s 10K Road Race in Banff on September 22nd. I’m blaming Deb for being an enabler and encouraging me to sign up for this. I was going to sit this one out but I decided it would be fun to do this as a fun run with friends. I’ve raced it every year since 2007 so I better keep my streak alive!

Next, the Husband and I are heading back to Disney World to race the Tower of Terror 10 Miler on September 29th. I’m not going to lie. I am scared about this race. A 10 mile race five weeks post-Ironman? And the race starts at 10 pm? 9:30 pm is my normal bedtime so running 10 miles at 10:00 pm scares the bejeezus out of me. I have *all day* to screw up my nutrition. Despite all the scary factors I’m excited about the race. It is an excuse for the Husband and I to take a trip to Disney World on our own and enjoy the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (along with trips back to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the Kennedy Space Center).

Finally, it is time to tackle it again. Really, I mean it this time. Five years after my first Goofy Challenge I’ll be doing it again in 2013. It is the 20th anniversary of the Disney Marathon so there will be a special medal. Will there be any changes to the route with the new Fantasyland expansion? To make things even better this time around, I have a training and racing partner for the Goofy. My friend Kelly (who I do a lot of training and lunch runs with) is also registered for the Goofy. No doubt we’ll have a great time racing together!
Are you doing any of these races? Wanna tackle the Goofy Challenge with me too??
Wow, sounds like a lot of stuff to keep you busy post-IM!!! 🙂
Great plans. I am THIS close to signing up for Goofy…
I love how many runs you have over there and how fun they look! I would love to do a cool run through DisneyLand! Awesome!
Here it is almost two full years after IMC, and I’m only recently back in the training groove again. We should get together and compare falling off the wagon stories.
I was looking through Impact at all the races, and trying to decide what to do. ALL THE FRIGGING RACES!!!! Holy crap. I hear so much about Melissa’s, but also that it’s hard to get into. And 10 miles at 10 pm is just wrong, and that isn’t even considering it’s only a few weeks after IMC.
Everybody needs some enabler friends. Glad I could step in for this one. 😉 Do I wanna do Goofy with you, of course! But, I don’t think it’s going to happen this year. Not in the budget at this point. I’ll look forward to the report and pictures though. LOVE the pictures from all your disney races.
