Pre-Race Rambles
With our car all fixed up it was time to hit the road to BC! I got in some good training while I was out there, including an amazing swim at a 50m pool:
A run on the seawall in Vancouver with my hubby:
Plus a couple of bike rides around Penticton and Oliver (though not nearly as much as I would have liked because the weather was awful):
Here we are, riding up McLean Creek Road.
On the day we were supposed to head back to Calgary my mom was participating in the Fresh Air Experience Women’s Race. There was a 5K and a 10K option and she suggested I sign up. Even though I hadn’t run 10K in ages (thanks to a blown up knee and niggly hip) I decided to go for the 10K. I was nervous…how would I feel?
Luckily the weather cleared up just in time for the race and it was beautiful out. After milling around the start, hitting up the bathrooms and warming up my hip for awhile it was time for a picture, then off to the starting line.
I had my watch set for 4:1s and just ran. Luckily everything was feeling pretty good…no niggly hip! The race was one of the most beautiful courses I think I’ve run. We ran through the orchards in Kelowna. It was a little hilly but so picturesque!
Getting close to the finish line! I felt pretty good while running, so that was a nice confidence boost. No real kick for the finish line though.
All done in just over 1:08. My mom crossed the line soon after and then we had to hurry back home so I could shower and we could pack up and head home to Calgary. I’m glad I was able to race. It was a fun way to end our vacation!
It looks like a great vacation all around.
