Oh boy, what a week it has been!
On Monday I had some speed work to knock out before hitting the road for an almost 6 hour drive to Lloydminster with my boss. Unfortunately there was a good amount of ice and snow on the pathways that made staying upright the challenge, not running fast. There was definitely no running fast!
On Tuesday I had a stair workout to do. Ideally I’d run to the stairs, do my workout for 20 minutes, then run back. It was incredibly cold and snowy around our hotel in Lloyd (and a bit sketchy) so I ditched the run portion. Luckily there were four levels in the hotel so I was able to get a good workout in alternating running up and down the stairs and lunging up them. I fit in some core work too – a great video I discovered on You Tube – core workout for runners by Jane Cullis.
The advantage with this core workout is you can do it anywhere. It really worked my core so I highly recommend it!
I took the day off on Wednesday since I spent a good chunk of it travelling. I also appreciated a night at home with my husband and Peat after being away for a few days!
Thursday I met my friend Kelly for a run. Again, it was snowy and icy out on the pathways so it was a slow slog. The company was great though and we had a really good 40 min run together.
On Friday I was all set to go to a Core Connection class at my gym. I also had plans to meet Kelly for our long run Saturday morning. When I got up in the morning I wasn’t feeling 100% though. Just looking at the coffee pot left me a bit nauseous and it did not improve as the morning went on. In fact, I had to head home from work early as a full on stomach flu or virus knocked me off my feet. Thankfully by mid-morning on Saturday I was able to keep a few sips of coconut water down, just as I was starting to worry that a trip to the ER and an IV may be in order. I’ve been laying low the rest of this weekend. My stomach is slowly but surely getting back to normal although I can’t handle much more than clear liquids and some rice. Yuck, not how I wanted to spend my weekend since it waylaid my training plans! Better than happening next weekend when the husband and I are supposed to be racing the Winterstart 5 Miler!
