Goal: Foam Rolling

November 27, 2012 By: Runner Leana

I’ve decided to set weekly goals for myself.  I figure if I aim to do something for one week it will be easier to make it a long lasting habit.  After all, aren’t goals supposed to be SMART?  Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound.  I figure making the goal for one week is a good place to start.  I also put that goal out there – like here on the blog.  I also e-mail my coach my weekly goals when I send her my weekly training recap so that can help make me accountable too.

My goal for this week is to become best friends with this guy.No, not cutie pie Peat.  He already falls in my best friend category.  I mean my foam roller.

I used to have a standard foam roller but I switched to The Grid a little while ago.  I really feel as though all of those bumps make a huge difference in how effective rolling is.  I have found it difficult to squeeze in time for rolling up until now.  I need to start being diligent on it starting now.  I can tell there are some niggle issues happening with my knee that foam rolling will help to address.  I’ve felt some tightness on the outside of my knee, so a sure sign I need to address my IT band.

My goal for this week is to foam roll five times this week.  What are your goals for this week?

I’m trying to become best friends with my foam roller too! I’ve got my first half on Saturday and I want my legs to be as fresh as possible! So you like the Grid better? I might need to look into that after my race.

Good luck with your first half this weekend!!! I do like the Grid a bit better. It is definitely more intense than the usual foam roller and I really feel like it has done a good job of getting some niggles out where I might have run off for ART instead.

My goal for the week is to do my wrist exercises at least 5 times as I fell on it again (not a big thing but caused some twinges) and I need to take care of it.

I’m BFF with my foam roller but thinking of trading it in for a grid. I like the idea of extra bumps to get out the lumps! 🙂

I have a love / hate relationship with my foam roller. But i agree with you on the grid. It’s way better. I just blogged about it on my site, too! http://ow.ly/fFsNv
