Today I had a 2 hour 15 min long run on fatigued legs from yesterday’s hill repeats. I decided to start from Edworthy Park and run east toward downtown. I was starting around 12:30. I’d had a late breakfast and a granola bar right before I left home so I figured I was good on the nutrition front.
My first mile felt hard. I thought I was running way too fast and then I looked at my watch and I was barely under a 13 min mile. What? 15 minutes in and I realized I felt lightheaded and my legs felt like jelly. Time to fix the problem so I inhaled a Cherry Lime Roctane Gu. I walked for a couple minutes then started run slowly. Within a few minutes I was feeling a lot better and 40 min in I had a kick in my step again.
Just under an hour in and I had made it to Eau Claire market. Time for a bathroom break (and a couple of photos).I decided to run up the Center Street bridge to McHugh Bluff before turning and making my way back to Edworthy. There was a beautiful view of the city and Bow River from the top.I ran down the hill from McHugh Bluff and back toward the pathway along the river to take me back to Edworthy. The wind was really blowing (in case you can tell by looking at my pony tail in the picture above). I was starting to get into a funk about how hard it was going to be to run all the way back into this wind. Then all of a sudden someone pulled up beside me and settled into my pace. I looked over and it was my friend Tracy!Tracy is a super speedy and awesome runner. Even though she slowed down her pace to run with me I also picked up my pace a bit to run with her. We chatted about life since Ironman Canada and about our coach racing Ironman Arizona today. She split off a few minutes later to head home and I continued on my way. Tracy’s timing was great as it pulled me out of my building funk and it woke my legs up. I was able to keep a faster pace on the way back than on the way out.
I came home to foam roll and stretch. Peat wondered what on earth this orange contraption was.Am I in your way?You don’t mind if I just sit on your yoga mat do you?Sure, I know my bed is right there but I’d rather lie on your yoga mat.Dogs are funny.
I managed to catch Coach Angie cross the finish line mid-foam roll session. Angie finished 2nd in her age group!! She looked so happy when she was done. Way to go Coach!!
How was your weekend? What did you get up to?
