Our wake up for the 5K on Friday morning came all too quickly. Despite the short night I didn’t want to miss out on the Dopey experience by getting a few more hours of sleep. I hopped in the shower and quickly got changed. We drove to the race start where I found Nikki and Cori shortly after arriving!
Nikki and I go way back to second year Civil Engineering in the late 1990’s, but this was my first time meeting Cori. She’s just as lovely in person as you would think. I loved their Minnie Mouse costumes! After catching up for a few minutes it was time to make our way to our corrals. Husband and I were in corral A, the supposed under 30 minute 5K corral.
The 5K was meant to be just a fun run with my husband. It was a chance to work out the kinks in my legs after travelling and for us to run together and take a ton of photos. As we started running I was so glad that we were doing this run together. My left hip was tight to begin with but luckily it worked itself out in the first mile. It was a great warm up! It was also a good way to be introduced to the heat and humidity in Florida!
The run started through EPCOT’s parking lot for a mile before we entered World Showcase for a run around the park. It wasn’t long before we spotted our first characters – Chip and Dale!
I love these guys! I used to have Chip and Dale stuffies as a kid. In Norway we ran into Daisy!
Then Goofy was waiting for us at the American pavilion.
I got complimented on my awesome holiday Pro Compression socks by our photographer here! They are pretty sweet socks.
By this point in time the later corrals were catching up with us so the course was getting more crowded. When we were waiting in line for Pluto at France we saw a familiar face approaching. My mom had caught up to us! She joined us for a picture.
Our final character was Donald in Canada looking very handsome in a plaid coat!
I had thought we might get to see another character as we approached Spaceship Earth but that was it. I loved that we got to meet some characters dressed up in unique costumes though!
I stopped for a quick picture with Spaceship Earth in the background, then it was on to the finish! As we ran in the finish line announcer complimented me on my awesome socks!!
The medals may be plastic but it will make a great Christmas ornament this year. I also love the ribbon it hangs on.
Once we were all done we popped by Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney for breakfast, then I had to make my way to the expo for a quick round of shopping (including the search for my miracle marathon capris). Sure, it was a short night but I’m really glad that my husband and I ran the 5K race together!
Love the picture of us! Can i get a copy?
Love that you and your husband got to run this together…I’d love to be able to do that one day – unfortunately all the Disney races are during my husband’s busy season and he can never come : ( You guys definitely got more character photos than I did, I sort of wish I had stopped for more but the lines got long so quickly!
That looks like a ton of fun! I hope they one day make an official Dopey and have a medal for doing all 3! People do it all the time! Nice pictures.
Great pics! Looks like you had a blast.
Looks like you had a ton of fun! Those are some pretty fabulous socks!
Fun! It’s kind of making me want to sign up for the 5K at PHM. I’m signed up for the 1/2! Great job on all three races. I saw you in Adam Ruck’s video-you looked great!
I LOVE Canadian Donald! Fun photos!! The year I did the 5K there were ZERO characters on the course. Can you believe that? Ever since I have avoided the 5K but it looks like it was fun this year.
Holy hannah – my blog feed has been wonky all month and then suddenly today ALL of your goofy posts loaded! It was great to finally get to meet you – even if we did end up having to go all the way to florida to do it 🙂 Perhaps now that we are home we can get together for running and coffee more often 🙂 Great recaps! You had an amazing race!!!
