He wanted to check my flexibility, then he went back to look at my ankles. With my legs relaxed, this is how they point if my feet are just hanging off a bench.
Notice anything strange?
My left foot is looking like it is at a strange alignment! Things are so tight on my left side that it is being pulled out of its usual direction. He did some ART throughout my arch, ankle, shin and calf. Holy smokes things were tight! I am also crazy After that I was given some exercises to do on my own time to help improve flexibility throughout my ankle. He figured things had improved about 30% after treatment so he advised I do some alternate activities besides running this weekend until I get some more improvement. Initially after treatment things were still really sore, but the pain started to subside over the course of the day. At least pain has improved for the moment!
This all goes back to taking proper care of ourselves during training for endurance sports. While I tried to be good about foam rolling while I was training for Goofy I made a bit of a mistake. Whenever I’ve had an issue with tightness it has always been on the right hand side of my body. When I foam rolled I really focused on my right hand side and probably didn’t give enough attention to my left hand side. The good news is this is fixable, it is just going to take some work!
Balance and Tightness
Yesterday’s appointment with my chiropractor regarding my ankle was quite enlightening.
I started to tell him my story about how I first noticed a problem after I had slipped on some ice, but at first my knee seemed to be the biggest issue and I wasn’t sure how my ankle might be related to my slip and knee pain.
He wanted to get to the root of the issue. Why did I slip in the first place? After all, we are always walking on ice here in Calgary, and if my weight was properly distributed I shouldn’t have slipped. Kind of like this graphic I saw Lora had posted on her blog recently.
I am so glad it is fixable! Now you have me wondering how my feet sit!
Thank goodness it is fixable! Hope you are back to normal soon.
So glad it’s fixable!
My calves and my ankles are very tight as well. This is ultimately what pulled on my tendons. Golf ball rolling and yoga were HUGE helps for me.
