February Goals

February 2, 2013 By: Runner Leana

Wow, January just flew by!  I guess having an awesome vacation at Disney World in the middle of the month will help with that.
I already loosely stated my goal for the year – to keep my races shorter in an attempt to get my old speed back over the course of the year.  Back in November I raced the Last Chance Half in 2:37:40.  Way back in 2009 I set my half marathon PR at the Calgary Police Half in 2:05:22.  What are the chances that I can drop over half an hour from my Last Chance Half time over the course of this year?  That’s a pretty big scary goal to put out there, and almost a little bit too big to think about and tackle all at once.  This year I want to set small goals that will put me on track to making that big scary goal a possibility.
  • Trust my coach and do what she tells me to do.  She set up a training program that helped me execute a terrific race at Goofy.  I need to stick with the process and do all the workouts she asks me to do.
  • Core work, at least three times per week.  It doesn’t have to be fancy, I just need to build consistency.  I gave the 300 Abs Challenge a try on Thursday and boy it was good!300_abs
  • Minimize eating out in February.  We eat out a lot!  I’ve challenged my husband to only one dinner out in the month of February – one to celebrate the third anniversary of our second first date together.  (If that sounds complicated you can read the back story here.)  I’m focusing on just dinners right now.  I’m hoping that all of this cooking at home will translate to lunches to take to work too, but I’m trying to make the goal manageable by focusing on dinner.
  • Try something new.  And that is where these two new purchases are going to come in handy…DSCN8569DSCN8571

Have you seen this race? http://www.colormerad.com/races/calgary.html
I have a friend in Colorado who did one and it looked like so much fun! This race might even encourage me to get my butt off the couch and train!

I think you can drop your half marathon time! Especially with how dedicated you’ve been lately—totally possible.

My goals for feb are to maintain a “loose” routine b/c come march i’ll officially be in ironman training, yikes.
