Ragnar Northwest Passage – Sightseeing in Seattle

July 22, 2013 By: Runner Leana

My first ever relay at Ragnar Northwest Passage with Nuun is in the books!

I had such an amazing weekend running with Nuun that it is going to be hard to put it into words…and will likely take me a few posts!  I can’t thank Nuun enough for asking me to run with them.  Spending two days in a van with five other strangers is guaranteed to make you fast friends.  We had a great team of very enthusiastic, supportive and talented runners.  The scenery running from Blaine to Langley was so beautiful and Ragnar did a great job organizing the event.  Casey, our captain of van #1, said our number one goal for the weekend was to have fun.  I’m pretty sure we nailed it!

The race would start early Friday morning so I took Thursday off from work so I would have some time to spend in Seattle.  The trip got off to a great start as my immigration official had run Ragnar Adirondacks earlier this year.  She didn’t find running almost 200 miles with a bunch of strangers all that strange.  Flying into Seattle was quite amazing as the tips of the mountains were peeking through a sea of clouds.

I caught the train from the airport to make my way to the Nuun Headquarters.  As I walked from the train station I felt butterflies rising in my stomach…was this really happening??

I was introduced to the friendly people at the office and met a few of the folks I’d be running with that weekend, all the while ogling how cool the space is.

There was plenty of time until our team would be getting together and I figured I’d use the time to shop and sightsee.  I really wanted to pop by REI to pick up some of their exclusive Cherry Blaze GU.  Here’s hoping I picked up enough!  Thanks to Megan from Nuun for taking me on a GU hunt!!

After getting a tour of some of the neat neighbourhoods in Seattle and running a few errands with Megan for last minute supplies for the weekend I was back downtown.  My stomach was getting rumbly so I decided to pop by Piroshky Piroshky.  I’ve wanted to try one of these yummy pastries for a long time and this was the first time I was finally able to go.

The rhubarb was delicious!!  It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed the view from Victor Steinbrueck Park as I munched on my piroshky.

I also did some wandering around Pike Place Market and watched them throw a fish around.

I stumbled upon the wall of gum.  It is impressive and kind of icky at the same time!

I also popped in to Elliott’s Oyster House for a little oyster happy hour action.  Those were some delicious oysters!

It was then time to make my way back to Nuun to meet some more Ragnar teammates, have some dinner and do a little van decorating…

You had a fabulous day in SEA on Thursday. Perfect sight seeing weather. I was just thinking how hard it was going to be to recap this experience. Might take me a while!

Sounds great! I’ve watched them throw those fish around. It’s a Seattle must I think.
