Something very exciting happened on my run yesterday! Something I haven’t done in over three years!
I had a 30 min run on my schedule yesterday with no agenda. Just run. With a slight reprieve from the cold I figured this was a long sleeve charcoal Flyte and squid ink Locks Run capri (aka the Lesley knicker). I love this colour combo!
I headed out on the pathway along at a pace that felt right to me. A few minutes later I looked down at my Garmin and saw I was running a 9:50 mile. I don’t usually see that on a training run these days! Seeing that pace I wanted to see if I could keep it up. My pace kept dropping and at my turnaround I realized that if I kept this up…maybe, just maybe…I could run a sub 30 min 5K??? I had a slight downhill and a tail wind on my way back that worked to my advantage. I also had a fellow in front of me that I was keeping pace with so it helped as a visual to try and keep up with him.
I kept telling myself that I wanted this, the only thing that mattered was running a sub-30 5K. Just keep running. You want this! It was a great mental exercise!! And when I hit 3.1 mi on my Garmin I saw this:
I haven’t run a sub-30 5K in over three years!!! This feels like a huge breakthrough. I have a feeling that my tough spin classes and strength training may be helping? I’ve had a tough time hitting my running goals in races this year so here is a sign that my old running speed is coming back!
Have you had a run that has surprised you recently?
Nice work!!!
That’s awesome! I’ve yet to accomplish a 5K in 30 mins. I’ve done a 10-in-60 though… but that was a few years ago.
