The night before the Last Chance Half my nose started to run, then wouldn’t you know I got hit by a full blown cold on Monday! Tuesday and Wednesday looked a lot like this:
I’m pretty sure Peat loved having me home for a few extra days as he planted himself in my lap the entire time!
I’m sorry, you weren’t actually wanting to do anything on your computer, were you?
I finally felt normal today and headed back to work and also made it out for my first run since the Last Chance Half. In true Calgary fashion we’ve gone from -8C and an inch or two of snow to +5 with clear pathways within a day or two! It felt great being out in the warmth and sunshine. I met up with Kelly and Shannon for a really nice run at lunch. We kept the pace easy and the company was great. Despite feeling under the weather for the last few days I felt pretty great on the run.
Gotta love Oiselle’s lux layer for cool weather runs!
After the run I popped into the gym for a bit of strength work too. My legs were shaking on some of the moves!
Costume change into Oiselle’s game day shorts and go long tank.
On another note, several of my friends are planning on signing up for Ironman Arizona, including some of my friends that I’ll be racing Boulder with. Yes, they are planning on racing two IMs within less than four months! I have zero desire to race two Ironman distance races in one year, plus I have other plans and hopes post Ironman Boulder. I’m still sad that my friends will be training for and racing an Ironman without me though!
How do you deal with the fear of missing out? Do you have your wishful races planned out more than a year in advance?
FOMO made me run far more races than planned this year. Next year, I “think” I’d like to do fewer races and train better for them (easier on the wallet). I’m currently contemplating a race a year away (Vancouver Half) but since I have had to sell a bib due to injury in the past, I prefer to sign up no more than 3 months in advance except for the BIG races like marathons, and I could understand, in your case Ironman… just due to the commitment level necessary to complete a BIG race like that. Good luck with your Ironman training Leana! I admire all that you do!
I do not fear missing out. The only race I signed up for a year in advance was IMC. IM Boulder is one I’d like to race, if I could be fit enough to not humiliate myself. Lots of very fit people in Boulder, along with some blog buddies I’d love to me.
Yay Peat, boo for your cold.
Now I’m curious, what are you thinking post-IMB?
I am still very much riding the post-race high but I know one of these days i’m going to come down off cloud nine and plan for the future…not really even sure what that looks like yet =).
