Saturday was the very first cross country race of 2014 out at Nose Creek Park.
We had some beautiful blue sky just in time for the race, we were above zero, but it was crazy windy out!
Luckily once we got going I didn’t notice the wind anymore. This course had less climbing than Edworthy and Silver Springs, but that being said I still found plenty of challenge in this course. The terrain was open and since we were so close to the airport it was neat to have planes taking off and flying just overhead.

It didn’t take long for the majority of the runners to peel away and it was myself along with a dad and his young daughter near the back of the pack. That’s alright, I don’t mind being one of the last runners. I know these races are going to help build my strength and endurance up!

One of my favourite parts of the race was where we got to run through a snow covered creek! Why run over a bridge when there is a perfectly good creek you could run through?
A longstanding Calgary Roadrunner member passed away recently and I gather he loved racing in Hawaiian shirts. There were some really nice stories said about him before the race and there were a few Hawaiian shirts along the race course.

The long course was two loops. I felt good when I finished my first loop so I headed back out for a second!

The volunteers were fantastic out there. It was a really fun day and we were once again really lucky to have amazing weather. Shortly after the race finished the wind picked up (even more) and there was a little storm that blew through. I wasn’t able to stick around for the soup and desserts this time unfortunately.
The next race is in two weeks out at Twelve Mile Coulee. Will I see you out there?

Great shots and report, Leana. You have a great attitude about getting out there 🙂 See you at 12 Mile Coulee!
OMG, these pictures are amazing! That looks like a ton of fun!
Looks like such a beautiful day out there! Just curious, when you run these ones in the snow what kinds of shoes do you wear? Trail shoes? Spikes too? Regular runners?
It looks so gorgeous, but very cold. Being a Southern I am not used to that.
Looks like another great race! Does that mean the next race is SUPER close to us?
I though the snow in that first picture was sand!! he he love these runs, need to find some trail runs near me!
