Running in Central Park

January 7, 2014 By: Runner Leana

One of the highlights of our trip to New York were some of the amazing runs I had in Central Park!  We stayed at the Sheraton Times Square, just a few blocks from Central Park.

I woke up on our first day way earlier than I expected so I threw on my running gear and headed to the park for a sightseeing run.  It was a weekday, and before 10 am, meaning that the park was still open to traffic.  There was still a huge lane for runners, not to mention the tons of pathways you could veer off on.

Hey, I found some cool statues!  There’s Robbie Burns, who we named one of our family dogs after.

Belvedere Castle was definitely neat to see (plus there was a nice hill to climb to get there).

I eventually made my way to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis reservoir for a loop.

I just kept taking in the scenery and loving that I was running in Central Park!  I stopped for tons of selfies around the reservoir too (but I’ll spare you and just share one)!

I also found Strawberry Fields on my way back to the hotel.

On my next run through Central Park I found the Bethesda Fountain!

And I was also able to meet up with one of my Oiselle teammates Beth for part of my run!

I made it for three runs in Central Park while we were there.  The weather was an absolute treat compared to how cold it had been in Calgary before we left.  Even though I planned on several runs while we were there I was able to keep packing light by rewearing tights, combining a tank with a Oiselle lux layer, then wearing my Oiselle flyer jacket over top.  All my clothes didn’t take up a ton of space in my suitcase and the flyer jacket did an awesome job of cutting the wind.  I was plenty toasty in my layers!

On my final run of 2013…and carrying some bagels post run back to our hotel.

Do you plan runs while you are on vacation?

I always plan runs while we’re away, like you say, a great way to sightsee! I’m so sad that I didn’t have the chance to run when we were in New York however. Guess that means we’ll just have to plan a trip so I can run there!

So fun that you were able to run in Central Park! I wanted to when we were there last Christmas, but it was super rainy and I didn’t want to go alone 🙁 I should have just sucked it up!

Jealous! Looks like a great trip to the big apple.

All your Oiselle clothes are sooooo adorable! I wanted a Flyte shirt for Xmas…maybe I’ll have to splurge on one for myself. I got distance shorts and I LOVE THEM.
