Whole30: Day 30

February 4, 2014 By: Runner Leana

With just a few hours left to go on day 30 of my Whole30 I am ready to call it a wrap!

Finished the w30 fb cover

I have to say it almost felt like these 30 days flew by.

How am I feeling?

Really good.  I’m feeling lighter and that definitely translates to my workouts.  My tummy has been pretty happy too.  I also successfully navigated a lunch meeting (my Thai chicken & veg curry was delicious while everyone else munched on cold pizza) and a Super Bowl get together this past week.

Did I accomplish what I hoped on my Whole30?

I was hoping to get in touch with my natural appetite and kill my sugar cravings.  Yes, this has absolutely happened!  If my eyes were bigger then my stomach when I served myself I learned to stop eating when I felt full.  I also haven’t gotten my usual “2 pm, jonesing for a treat at Starbucks” feeling.  I can look at a tray of desserts and not feel like I need to eat one.

Did I lose weight?

By way of background…I was at the same weight for a good part of 2013.  Despite cutting down eating out and trying to eat more healthfully the scale just wouldn’t budge.  I did start to see changes to my measurements in December and I believe that incorporating strength training in my routine played a big role in helping to kick those changes off.  Whole30 helped me blow past my plateau though and I lost 10 lbs!  Crazy!!

I never thought to take photos before starting the challenge, but below is a photo from October 6 on the left, February 3 on the right.  My old photo isn’t necessarily the best one…but you can definitely tell the difference in how my Rogas fit!

October to February

So now what?

I don’t want to undo all of my hard work and accomplishments from this past month.  The second part to Whole30 is reintroducing the foods that you cut out back in to your diet.  I’d like to find out if there is anything that bothers my tummy.  I will probably have a better idea of where I’ll be going from here after the next couple of weeks.  I’ve felt so good through the process though that I will definitely be limiting how much I have of non-Whole30 compliant foods.  I also think Neil and I have learned a lot about the many ways we can incorporate veggies into our diet.  I thought we were doing okay before, but we went through veggies like I’ve never seen before on Whole30.  That would be a great habit to keep!

So no, Neil and I won’t be celebrating the end of our Whole30 with a dinner out tomorrow night…but there may be wine?  Or maybe a chocolate milk tomorrow night?

Any tips or tricks to share?

You bet!!  Check back Wednesday!

Wow, you look fantastic Leana! I haven’t tried it myself, but you are making me think about it for sure. The part about feeling better is very appealing. Way to go!

This is a great wrap up post and holy cow I can definitely see the difference! Way to go! Although I haven’t kept up quite as much as I wanted to since doing Whole 30 myself, I have definitely learned so much about food and the way I see it and want it and consume it. I may not eat compliant anymore but I certainly consider so much more when making food decisions.

Um hello…BIG difference in those photos and you can see your muscles coming out to play now too :). Nice job sticking to the Whole 30, it is something I’ve always wanted to try and maybe now I will. You may have said this before, but did you buy the books and stuff or just do it off stuff online?

You look great! 10# is a solid and healthy loss over a month. Good luck staying mostly-clean while allowing the occasional treat! WIll be interested to hear if you notice any aversions to anything you re-add.

I’m going to seem like a stalker now commenting on a post from a few weeks ago. haha

I saw one of your recent Whole30 posts and went looking back for this. I have looked into it but it scares me… you make me feel like maybe I could do it, and it would be so worth it.

You are looking so good – strong & fit. Congrats on kicking the weight. You must feel so good!! Keep it up, girl!
