I think I am entering the “exhaustion” phase of training! Workouts are going really well, but I’m definitely starting to feel tired.
Last weekend I had a long run to do that was supposed to include some hill repeats. I opted to run a beautiful, hilly run through Bowmont Park instead.
Just to mix things up I veered off on to a few trails as well.
Sure, my legs were tired running up and down those trails but it was really fun too! I even saw a snake…
Apparently Wednesday was National Running Day? I’m not sure if that applies here in Canada, but nevertheless I celebrated!
Also in the name of mixing things up I did a stair workout on Thursday. I had 30 minutes of climbing as per my program. After 20 minutes I was hurting, and briefly contemplated calling it a day early. I knew I would be disappointed in myself if I did that though, so onwards and upwards for 30 minutes of climbing.
While it was beautiful out for my stair climbs at lunch on Thursday the weather turned in time for my bike ride that night. There were some nasty clouds, cold and strong winds and spits of rain. I didn’t get poured on until the very end of my ride though so there was no reason to turn around early.
Those last 10 minutes of my ride were nasty though! My fingers were frozen and I immediately changed in to cozy, winter weight sweats when I got home.
Friday was my long run day and I had 2:15 on my schedule. The best way for me to conquer that time and distance on a work day is to run from home to work. I was on the road just after 5 am. The previous night’s chill and rain had passed and it was actually quite a beautiful day. My legs were trashed from those stairs and the bike ride so it was a bit of a slower go. That being said I actually had a pretty great run. I felt mentally strong and my pacing was pretty consistent.
As soon as I stopped running my legs stiffened up like I had just finished racing a marathon. I’ve been hobbling about all weekend now! I did make sure to start fuelling my recovery as soon as I was done running though. I immediately bought a big chocolate milk and downed that like nobody’s business! I just wish I would have had time to do a little foam rolling once my run was done.
On Saturday I took my tired and stiff legs out for a long bike ride with my friend Shannon. We rode from Airdrie and went on a route I’d never ridden before. We did a loop from Airdrie to Crossfield, west to Madden, then back to Airdrie. We saw this guy just west of Crossfield…
We also spotted some itty bitty baby goats, alpacas, cows and horses. Rides around Alberta always seem to be filled with wildlife sightings. 🙂
So there we go…training is going really well, I have a wicked case of DOMS and I’ve stayed up past my usual 9 pm bedtime in an attempt to craft a blogpost! What have you been up to lately?
Seeing a snake would really freak me out. I guessed I’d worry it was poisonous.
I wouldn’t like seeing the snake at all. But lots of pretty scenery.
Beautiful pictures minus the snake! Chocolate milk is one of my favorite things to have post-run. I go back and forth between that and coke.
