Within about 10 minutes from when we entered Yellowstone Neil and I started to talk about how great it would be to come back and do some bike riding out here. It became apparent very quickly that we weren’t going to be able to see very much on our short time in the park. I can’t wait to plan a trip to come back and spend more time here!
I started planning this road trip a year ago and right away I knew I wanted to travel through Yellowstone and stay at the Old Faithful Inn. The lobby of the hotel is stunning! If you’ve ever been to the Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World…this is the hotel they were inspired by!
A little bit of research told me that the rooms in the original Old House were the most historic, and they were also the most budget friendly. I booked a 2 bed room with a shared bath down the hallway.
The room was very quaint and very similar to when the hotel opened up in 1904. We had a sink in the room, then the bathroom was two doors down from us. The shared bathrooms were gorgeous, lovely marble tile, beautiful fixtures and very clean. After we checked in we were talking about driving back to explore some of the geysers we had spotted on our way in, but the weather was starting to turn on us. Instead we walked around the area a bit and managed to catch Old Faithful erupting.
We had dinner reservations at the Old Faithful Inn Dining Room for later in the evening.
The food at the dining room was really nice. I had the bison and the chicken and pheasant sausages with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. They were delicious! Just as we finished dinner it was time for another eruption from Old Faithful!
We had a long drive to get to Boulder from Old Faithful the next day so we hit the road quite early. The drive out of Yellowstone was so pretty.
And stunning as we entered Grand Teton National Park too although we didn’t stop for many photos.
Once we left the park it was one long drive through Wyoming. Several hours later we finally made it to Colorado!
And with that…we are now in Boulder and Ironman Boulder is tomorrow!! So crazy! If you want to track me my bib number is 937!
