Displaying My Race Medals

December 7, 2014 By: Runner Leana

When Neil and I were house hunting one of my key requirements was a space in the house that I could spin and set up a workout room.  I wanted a lot of visual cues for motivation in what would be my pain cave so I figured this would be the perfect place in our home to display my race medals.

When I first started racing I would put together shadow boxes to show off my medals.  I’ve also had a few of my really important medals framed with some race photos – my first two half Ironmans and my first Ironman.

I wanted a way to hang up a lot of medals in a way that I could still show off their beautiful ribbons.  I also wanted some flexibility to add more medals.

Curtain rods!  I picked up two inexpensive curtain rods from Target when they were on sale.  I love the thickness of the curtain rod and the mercury glass finials.

I’ve got lots of space between the medals at the moment, plus I’ve left some room on the end for the Goofy Challenge medals I hope to be earning in January!

Your display is fab! I really like that you have enough space on the rods that you can display the medal ribbons, like you mentioned. I have a few racks, but to fit my medals on, the ribbons overlap each other!

You are such a pro at displaying medals. Mine are all hanging in a heap near the computer. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jiTTimnWnH8/U0GBSoMC8lI/AAAAAAAAELM/5lsBcNslz90/s1600/IMG_4579.JPG

I love your display. I like how you can see each one of your individual medal without overlapping that you have to when on a medal hanger. I really like your shadow boxes as well. I have been wanting to get one done for my Boston2BigSur challenge. -L

Love your medal display! And I think it’s awesome that you call your workout space the “pain cave” – lots of motivation to push you through

I LOOOOVE this!! It looks amazing! (all I do is tape the bibs to the wall and hang my medals around randomly)

I am jealous of two things here – your amazing display AND your workout room in your house!! If we ever move or have an opportunity to add on to the home we’re in now, this is a MUST for me. I’ve had a treadmill in my bedroom for far too long! Greatness!
