TOLT: the Disney vacation edition

January 22, 2015 By: Runner Leana

It is Thursday and I’m linking up with Amanda from Running with Spoons for Thinking Out Loud Thursday!Thinking-Out-Loud

Today’s random thoughts are courtesy of my vacation at Disney World!TOLT the Disney vacation edition

Our time at Disney for the marathon was an absolute blast.  The weather was fairly cold for part of it so I pretty well lived in my Oiselle wazzie wool sweatshirt, Flyer jacket and runfinity scarf.PhotoPass_Visiting_Magic_Kingdom_Park_7151793082

I discovered there was a Shake Shack in Winter Park, just on the north side of Orlando.  Neil and I went twice and it was so good!!  It also just happened to be next to Trader Joe’s.Shake Shack

My niece loves roller coasters.  She’s a definite thrill seeker because her favourite ride was Aerosmith’s Rock n Roller coaster.  She also battled Darth Vader!  She’s awesome.PhotoPass_Visiting_Disneys_Hollywood_Studios_7155945045

Speaking of awesome, my mom ran the Dopey Challenge!  Four days, four races, 48.6 miles.  She even beat her marathon time from two years ago when she ran the Goofy.  Way to go mom!PhotoPass_Visiting_Epcot_7160856921

Neil and I had dinner at Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge to celebrate after the marathon.IMG_9799

IMG_9792Maxi dresses and calf sleeves, a marathon runner’s best friends!IMG_9796

We also had dinner at California Grill later in the week and Artist Point wins, hands down.  I enjoyed the food and the service a lot more there!

Speaking of celebrating, I loved the champagne from the French pavillion!  It was the Brut from Nicolas Feuillatte.PhotoPass_Visiting_Epcot_7160579592

The Biergarten Restaurant at EPCOT is also a very good time.  I got to dance the chicken dance with my niece!  I don’t even attempt to order a litre of beer as I just can’t drink that much.IMG_9891

Speaking of beer, I tried hot butterbeer at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Diagon Alley.  I think the frozen butterbeer is still my favourite.  The hot stuff was extraordinarily sweet.IMG_9868

Sadly there was some not so good stuff that happened while we were down in Orlando.  Peat was attacked by another dog while he was in kennel resulting in some wounds on his muzzle and a cracked dew claw that had to be removed.IMG_9918

Poor guy!  Thankfully he is still his usual cheerful and cuddly self, but I think that even once his moustache grows back in he’s going to have a few bare patches. 🙁IMG_9920

How are things with you?  Share something random from your week!

So weird but your comment went to my spam folder! I’m sorry about that!

Training for a January race is definitely tough. My long runs were all around the week of Christmas and that can be really challenging. Calgary weather can also make training for a January marathon really tough. I feel like I lucked out this go around!

Ohhhhh Disney! Seriously one of my favourite places in the world. I’ve never been to the one in Florida, but I’ve hit up the one in Cali a handful of times and it never gets old. I can’t wait to take my (future) kids there someday. I bet it’s even more fun with little ones around 😀

I haven’t been to Disneyland in years but I can’t wait to visit in May! Disney is definitely fun for all ages, but I get a new perspective on it hanging out with my niece. I love that she’s so into the roller coasters!

Thanks Kaella! Yes, my mom is a definite rock star. She’s done the Goofy a couple of times and now the Dopey! I think my Dad is also a rock star because he gets up early with her every race morning and cheers her on. That was especially tough for him this year given how cold the weather was most of race weekend!

I soooo want to go to Disneyworld! I think about doing the Disney marathon next year but the January time doesn’t appeal to me that well. But shake shack does appeal to me….a lot!

Good luck and have fun at the Princess Half Cassandra!! I haven’t done that race but the course is the same as the half marathon in January. The highlight is definitely running down Main Street and going through Cinderella’s castle. I can’t wait to find out how your first half marathon goes!

Thanks Tina! Peat seems to be doing really well, especially now that he doesn’t need the cone anymore. It is just going to take a long time for the hair to grow back and cover up some of his bare patches. 🙁

How was your race in Arizona? My coach ran the half as well and she said the last few miles are tough!

Aw, thank you Lisa! Luckily Peat seems to be his usual self but seeing the wounds on his muzzle break our hearts.

I definitely love runDisney races. They are a fun time, especially if you are a Disney fan!

Thanks for your comment Carmen. My mom definitely is amazing! She only got into running maybe 6 or 7 years ago so I’m super impressed with all of the half and full marathons she runs!
