Happy 2015!It felt like 2014 just flew by.  Athletically it was a really strong year for me.  I trained for and raced Ironman Boulder and I have trained really hard for the Goofy Challenge next weekend.  I don’t tend to pay a lot of attention to my mileage totals during the year but it turns out I ran 1102.87 miles and cycled 2026.89 miles in 2014.  That is a huge jump from 2013 when I ran 715 miles and cycled 1128 miles.  With that huge jump in volume I’m so thankful that my body stayed healthy and strong throughout the year.  My brain has also been on board with all of these hours of training too, and that is huge!

I finished off 2014 with a 45 min run along the Bow River.  I was to break the run into 15 minute increments – 15:00 easy, 15:00 at marathon race pace, 15:00 faster than race pace.  I nailed it!IMG_9290

To celebrate the new year Neil and I went out to Model Milk for dinner.IMG_9294

The highlight of the meal were these amazing BBQ’d King crab legs with seaweed salt and Old Bay butter.

New Year's feast at Model Milk

King crab legs, devilled eggs, steamed buns, cheezies and charred Shishito peppers from Model Milk.

Thanks to a 2 hour nap just before dinner I was able to stay up for midnight.  It was a nice and low key evening, somewhat different from the year before which was spent running a 4 mile race in Central Park.IMG_9310

Today I went for my first run of 2015.  The temperature was getting colder and there was snow in the air, but I managed a really great 90 min run.  I warmed up for 30 minutes, ran the next 45 minutes at my goal marathon race pace, then cooled down for 15 min.  The final 10 minutes of the run was tough as colder weather was blowing in.  I’m glad I didn’t procrastinate too long as the snow is really coming down now and it is -17C (1.4F).IMG_9538

How did you spend your New Year’s Eve?  Is it just me, or can you relate to this?

Leana, I think you had a fantastic year! Your running and cycling mileage for the year are impressive not to mention finishing a race like Ironman Boulder – not many people can commit to that type of training or the toughness of the race! Congrats and looking forward to seeing what you do in 2015 🙂

Thanks so much Sun! I think I may need to try tackling a stand alone marathon later this year. I haven’t done one since 2009!
