A Weekend of Great Eats and What’s Cooking

February 16, 2015 By: Runner Leana

I mentioned on Thursday that Neil and I were celebrating our fifth anniversary of our second first date this past weekend.  We definitely celebrated with some amazing food and experiences!A Weekend of Great Eats

On Friday evening we kicked the night off with cocktails at Milk Tiger Lounge.  You can blink and miss this tiny hole in the wall, but the cocktails here are fantastic.

After a celebratory drink Neil and I had reservations at Model Milk‘s private dining room for a pop up event with Maison Publique, a restaurant in Montreal.

The plates were all small and meant for sharing and the flavours Chef Derek Dammann created were phenomenal.  If you are ever in Montreal I highly recommend checking out his restaurant.

On Saturday Neil and I were at the Hotel Le Germain to cheer on Chef Brody Ashton from CHARCUT as he competed on Chopped Canada.

If Chef Brody won he planned to donate his prize to his cousin’s husband and four children as she had passed away from cancer last year.  It made for a really emotional showdown as we cheered him on.

So how were last week’s meals?  Going clockwise…This Weeks Eats 1

Chicken Cacciatore via Jamie Oliver – this was delicious!  I made sure to marinate the chicken in a half bottle of Chianti for several hours.  We served the chicken on a bed of polenta with zucchini on the side.
Coconut Skirt Steak with Cabbage Slaw via Runner’s World – I really liked the flavour of the beef and the slaw was yummy.  I’d definitely make it again!
Curried Ground Shrimp and Noodles via Bon Appetit – this dish was a little less successful.  It came out more like a soup than I anticipated and the shrimp were tough and rubbery.  The flavours of the broth were great though and I’d make this again but I’d use ground pork instead of shrimp.
Sausage Carbonara via Jamie Oliver – this dish is a winner as Neil and I make it all the time.

Here’s the plan for this week:Runner Leana Meal Planning

Sunday: Spiced Lamb Patties with Nutty Garlic Sauce via Bon Appetit
Monday: Pappardelle with Veal and Pork Bolognese via Michael Chiarello’s Casual Cooking (very similar recipe here)
Tuesday: Moroccan Spiced Pumpkin and Chickpea Stew via Happy Hearted Kitchen
Wednesday: Korean BBQ Tofu Bowls with Stir Fried Veggies via Oh My Veggies
Thursday: Red Lentil and Coconut Soup via Casey Jade

As usual I’m linking up with Jill Conyers and Laura from Mommy Run Fast along with Laura from I’m an Organizing Junkie, to share my meal plan for the week.

What’s the strangest thing that you’ve ever eaten?

I think its great the way you cook.
Most people fall into the trap of cooking the same things over and over and over.
I love the way you mix it up
You must be a real foodie 🙂
Both my husband and I are in the industry (him a chef, myself a pastry chef)
We rarely see one another so its a real treat when we get to have a meal together.
I do a lot of one person cooking 🙁 which is HARD

I hopped over from MPM. Sounds like an amazing weekend! Full of good food and flavor – just my kind of weekend, too. 🙂 I am loving your menu (and the descriptions of last week’s)! I am off to check out all the yummy links. Thanks for the great menu inspiration!
