Last week I felt a touch of frustration regarding physio to rehab my knee/patellar tendonitis. I felt like I wasn’t being given a lot of direction for how to move forward. Should I keep doing the couple of exercises I’ve been given? Should I do more? Are there other exercises I should be adding to my repertoire? When I asked my physio she said to just keep doing what I’m doing…but then she said I could probably try out a test run to see how things felt. A test run?? Yippee!! My instructions were to keep it short and at a low intensity and if I had any pain we’d need to reevaluate.
Given that it was 14C out that afternoon I figured I should get outside for that test run right away. I was incredibly nervous though. I have no pain day to day but would pain rear its ugly head mid-run?
Thankfully I executed a 20 minute pain free run. It wasn’t relaxing or joyous because I was so nervous…but it did feel good to clear that first hurdle. I spent some quality time with my foam roller when I got home (Peat tried to help).
Moving on, how did last week’s eats fare?
Braised Beef in Chianti via David Rocco. This was absolutely delicious. Maybe not the prettiest colour, but it was so tasty! We served this over polenta with chunks of gorgonzola melted into it.
Red lentil and coconut soup via Casey Jade. It took a small around of futzing around with the ingredients to get the flavours on the soup right. Neil dialed back on some of the spices but I still felt that coriander was a fairly strong flavour. Initially we couldn’t taste the coconut milk at all so we wound up adding a full can instead of just a half a can (which also helped to mellow out the flavour slightly).
Tuesday: Chopped chicken sesame noodle bowls via Pinch of Yum. Again we futzed around with the sesame sauce ingredients. A little soy balanced out the flavours and I preferred the heat from Sriracha instead of chili pepper flakes. When it all came together the dish was delicious!
For this week the plan is:
Saturday: Spanish Style Clams via Wine Spectator
Monday: Pasta with Tuna and Cream Sauce via David Rocco, Romanesco with Rosemary, Garlic, Lemon and Pecorino via Nigella Lawson
Tuesday: Smoked Gruyere and Butternut Soup with Spicy Chickpeas via How Sweet It Is
Wednesday: Pork Sausage with Rapini via David Rocco
Thursday: Spicy Sriracha Ramen Noodle Soup via Baker By Nature or Spaghetti alla Carbonara via David Rocco
