Thinking Out Loud…03.05.2015

March 5, 2015 By: Runner Leana

Well friends, we have already made it to Thursday!  That means it is time to link up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud!Thinking-Out-Loud

We’ve been spoiled in Canada for the last few years thanks to a rather strong Canadian dollar.  In the last few months it has taken quite the tumble versus the US dollar and that is definitely impacting things.   For Neil and I we had a nice wishlist of vacation ideas for this year and we’ve been really paring that back.  I also really wanted to enter the Chicago marathon lottery but now I’m debating running the BMO Okanagan Marathon in Kelowna instead.  It would definitely be a much less expensive trip to Kelowna since I’d be able to stay with my parents.  The bonus?  The marathon is Thanksgiving weekend and at the tail end of the Fall Wine Festival.  Decisions, decisions…DSCN9721-252520edit1

Speaking of vacations the one trip that Neil and I were adamant about doing this year was spending Christmas in New York.  We had such an amazing time there in 2013 that we’ve been talking about going back ever since.  We booked our accomodations and flights last week so let the planning begin!  I’m excited for the good food and drink, running in Central Park and Refine Method classes!  Since I’ll be right in the middle of training for the Phoenix marathon (since I deferred my race entry to next year thanks to patellar tendonitis) I imagine I’ll be logging quite a few miles while we are in New York.IMG_36521

On Sunday I met my friends Keith and Michelle at the Talisman pool.  I’ll be honest, I’m generally very apprehensive about meeting people to swim.  I worry that I’m slow and I’m holding people back.  Keith and Michelle are so lovely though so I didn’t have anything to worry about.  Keith gave me some really great pointers regarding my stroke and I saw some great improvements right away.  After the swim was done we chatted and caught up over coffee.  What a lovely Sunday morning!IMG_0120

Last week RunDisney revealed the medals for the upcoming Tinker Bell half marathon weekend.  I’ll be there racing the Pixie Dust Challenge (a 10K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday).  For the first time in awhile I’m not really all that excited about the race medals though.  I like the 10K and half marathon ones but the Pixie Dust Challenge just doesn’t seem special to me.  Oh RunDisney…you’ve set the bar high on race medals…10981930_1121794407846520_2424564689031830483_o

And finally…after taking some time off from coaching while I dealt with my knee injury I am now back on a coaching program with Angie Anderson and Team Tri Life.  I’ve been coached by Angie since 2008.  I felt like my training for the Goofy Challenge was truly a breakthrough for me.  Angie challenged me in new ways and I learned that I was capable of more than I thought.  I’m looking forward to building on that this year!TriLife_col_sm

Oh…one more thing!  Thank you so much for all the love and wonderful comments on my post last week on Body Image.  Have a happy Thursday my friends!

    Christmas in New York?! Amazing!!
I’m pretty certain I’ll be running Kelowna this year as well (again). It’s not my favourite course for scenery, but it’s flat and inexpensive to drive to!

Christmas in New York?! Omigosh that sounds AMAZING! I’ve only ever visited NYC once, and that was back when I was around 3 years old sooooooo I don’t exactly remember it all that well. I’d really love to go back and visit now that I’m old enough to appreciate all the amazing things the city has to offer, though. And I bet it’s even better around Christmas!

Workouts where you don’t feel pressure to keep up are the best! I worry about that too sometimes.

My travel plans for the next few months have me staying in Canada as well. In May I’m going to Vancouver to see U2, and in June I’m heading up to Edmonton to see a couple World Cup games with a friend.

New York! Yay. Having the dollar so low really does suck especially since I already have so many US trips planned for this year. Come on oil, get back up there!
I agree that the challenge medal isn’t as good looking but love those Tinkerbell ones.
