This week for Tuesdays on the Run the wonderful MCM Mama, My No Guilt Life and Run the Great Wide Somewhere would like for us to chat about how our training is going this spring. As I shared in my post last week about balancing triathlon training and life things are busy!
I’m doing a good job of getting to the pool twice a week as per my schedule. My challenge is being efficient enough to swim 2000 m and to make it to work at a decent hour. I gave up my membership at the YMCA in favour of swimming at the nearby city pool. This means I swim early, then go home to finish getting ready, then my husband drops me off at work before he drives to work. I’m getting there, I just need to be as quick as possible with getting in the water, then getting ready afterwards.
Tomorrow is my final “big, scary” bike class at Tri-It and I’m actually quite sad that the class is over. These four weeks have flown by and I hope to sign up for class in the fall. I’m really happy that I’m working with watts on the bike now as I think it is helping me to stay honest and to work harder and smarter. There is a huge difference between rate of perceived exertion and how hard you are actually working.
Knock on wood, after taking most of February off from running things are going really well right now. Hill training is making an appearance on my schedule as I work to build strength for Ragnar Wasatch Back in June. Distance for my long runs is building as I get ready for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon and Calgary Half Marathon in May. I’m also branching out and running some different routes now that the snow has melted and the pathways are clear. Overall I am loving running right now!
Since January I’ve been making a concerted effort to fit strength training into my schedule. I’m starting to notice that it is paying off. I’ve discovered a TRX class that I love and I’m finding that ballet barre is building tons of glute and core strength. It has been really fun!
How is your spring training going? What is your next big goal race?
