Happy Monday friends! This weekend was a very busy one!
Things kicked off on Friday with an hour long ride through Bearspaw. It was a beautiful evening for a ride!
By the time I was done the ride I was famished…but I had to go grocery shopping at Costco. That sounds like a recipe for disaster! I grabbed a chocolate milk and ate some string cheese and I managed to make it through Costco without straying from my grocery list.
On Saturday I was up bright and early. I had a double workout day that I needed to get through. First up was an easy one hour run. My legs felt a bit tired to begin with but they soon came around. I had tried to get an early start but it was already really warm out!
After my run I ate a good breakfast, mixed up some fuel, loaded up my bike and drove out to Cochrane. I had a 60K bike ride to do and I decided to revisit an old route and ride Horse Creek Road.
I figured this was also a great excuse to try out my new Betty Designs tri kit. I wanted to see how comfortable it might be for racing this year. So far I love it! Everything stayed put (my old tri top would always roll up at the waist on me) and I was comfortable the entire time.
I forgot how nice it is riding Horse Creek Road. It was so pretty out!
Alpacas (I think)!
Once the ride was done I knew I needed to hurry up and refuel. Luckily I had brought along a little jug of chocolate milk with me!
No bike in Cochrane is complete without a trip to MacKay’s for some ice cream.
Strawberry rhubarb pie and a scoop of Saskatoon Berry. Yum!
When I got home it was time to put my feet up, relax and rehydrate. I had a race on Sunday I needed to prepare for!
How was your weekend? What is your favourite flavour of ice cream?
I’m joining Tara from Running ‘N’ Reading for her Weekend Update Link Up.
I have actually never been out to MacKay’s ice cream! crazy right?
That’s a lot of biking & running you did before your race! And I thought I was the crazy one having an active week the weekend before my marathon.

MacKay’s is delicious! I’ve spotted it for sale at Co-op as well.
Strathmore wasn’t really a goal race for me and I’ve got to get the volume in to get ready for the Calgary 70.3. I’m glad my legs were on board for race day!

Thanks for your comment Lacey. Yes, cycling in cold weather is somewhat less enjoyable!

That’s an incredible amount of training in one weekend! Kudos to you!!

Thanks Carmen! Training for a 70.3 generally involves some good volume and my race isn’t that far away anymore!

Wow! I had no idea you did all of this BEFORE the race, Leana; you are a ROCK STAR! You definitely deserved that ice cream treat – ha! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog; hope your Monday is going well!

Sorbet is my fave! I do love Menchies and the free taster cups 🙂
I haven’t tried Menchies yet!! I am a sucker for frozen desserts so I’ll have to give it a whirl! Thanks Katie!!!

Is strawberry rhubarb a new flavor? I’m pretty sure if I’d seen it on the menu before I would have tried it.

Maybe it is a new flavour? It has been awhile since I’ve been to MacKay’s. It is called the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.

Your tri kit is so cute!
You’re amazing for killing those workouts AND your tri on Sunday – way to go!

Aw, thanks Ange! I’m loving it (although feeling a bit bad for not sporting Team Tri Life colours although that kit doesn’t fit well).

I still haven’t been to MacKay’s ice cream & it makes me so sad! Have you tried Tim’s pizza in Cochrane? OMG seriously, the best pizza in Alberta. They have an amazing honey-thyme-goat cheese pie that I go crazy for. 🙂

No, I haven’t tried Tim’s pizza… That sounds delicious though!

I wanted to ask if your old tri top was Betty Designs? I just bought a used Betty Designs kit and the top keeps rolling up! I’d definitely consider buying a new Betty Designs kit if the top was revamped. Thanks 🙂
Hi Em! My old kit was a custom one for our tri team by Champion Systems. I found their stuff is not made to accomodate girls with hips! My Betty trip top isn’t the newest design. They just revamped their kits in April or so this year but I haven’t tried out the new fit/fabric.

I would say mint chocolate chip, but that just sounds lame compared to the flavors that you had! I would take the chocolate milk before the ice cream, though.
