Happy Thursday my friends! I’m linking up with Amanda from Running With Spoons for Thinking Out Loud.
Having a bad day at the races was really put into perspective on Sunday. While I wasn’t able to run the race I hoped, the first person across the finish line unintentionally cut the course short and was disqualified. My heart goes out to him as no doubt that was not the result he hoped for either.
I am a bit of a spreadsheet nerd. I was looking to see if maybe I started out too fast on Sunday by comparing my heart rate data to Tinker Bell’s. I’m not really sure what the data tells me except I know I didn’t mentally give up on my goal until mile 5.5. I’m not sure why my HR tanked so early on!
The exciting thing about this week is that it is race week! I’m racing my very first triathlon of the season at the Strathmore Women’s Triathlon. If you’d like to join in on the fun in either the sprint triathlon, duathlon or relay you can still sign up at race packet pick up (cash only). It is time to put some Lock Laces in my shoes!
Apparently Disney has been sending out a survey to see how receptive people might be to tiered ticket pricing. Disney World is already a very expensive vacation, plus it is complicated because it requires so much planning in advance (lodging, dining reservations, fast pass bookings)! Neil and I are giving Disney World a bit of a break for awhile to do some other things, but tiered tickets would really have us questioning about going back.
I very rarely wear my hair down. It is fine and thin and just winds up looking so blah later in the day. I got a free sample of Living Proof’s Prime Style Extender from Sephora and that stuff is liquid gold! I actually had a good hair day all day!
I’ve been looking into flight to Kelowna in October to run the BMO Okanagan Half Marathon. I hear the course is flat and fast (plus being in Kelowna the scenery is gorgeous). Bonus? Spending Thanksgiving with my parents and catching the tail end of the fall wine festival.
Share your favourite hair styling product! Have you ever run the BMO Okanagan Marathon? What did you think of the race?
I love Living Proof products!
Kelowna: absolutely flat and fast! The first loop is through the industrial area, so it’s not overly interesting, but after the first 7km or so, you’re back along the lake and then through the nicer area on the south side of the highway by Lakeshore and the hospital.
Also, wine fest 🙂

Thanks for the info on the Kelowna race! Was the course length pretty spot on for you? It looks like there are quite a few turns on the course.

I just pulled my Garmin info from the 2014 race and mine measured 21.25, so a tad long, but not bad considering I most definitely do not run the tangents!
(Considering the MN marathon ran about a half mile long, 100m or so isn’t awful!)

No, that doesn’t seem too bad at all. I measured Calgary at 21.3 and I was trying to run the tangents.

Oh my goodness it costs more than $100 to go to Disney per day! I had no idea it was that expensive.
I love Living Proof products, they have a really great line.

Yes, Disney is definitely not cheap. Neil and I wound up buying annual passes for years we knew we were going to go more than once because it became quite a bit cheaper.

I’ve only been to Kelowna during the summer, but I bet it’s just as pretty in the fall. Sounds like it would be a fun trip – you can’t go wrong with wine.

No, you definitely can’t go wrong with wine!

My hair is a nightmare without some products in it because of how fine it is… Right now I’m really loving the Big Sexy Hair root spray and the dry spun finishing spray from Bumble & Bumble. Anything that’ll add a little oomph without weighing my hair down is my new best friend.

I love Bumble and Bumble! I’ll have to look into that finishing spray, along with the root spary you mentioned!

I ran the marathon last year in Kelowna – definitely flat and beautiful but the full is a double loop and can be a bit mentally challenging 🙂 Wine makes up for it though. I’m running the 10K this year.
Thanks for the feedback on the course Jenny! I don’t know how I’d feel about a double loop course for a full marathon. I worry that I’d find it a big challenge to know that I have to go through the entire course all over again!

Years ago when Kelowna first opened up the Marathon I had heard that the course was short. Somehow that has turned me off of it, as well as it being a Running Room marathon (not sure why that turns me off either). I bet it would be beautiful though! I’m headed to Victoria to run their Full over Thanksgiving 🙂 As for hair products, I went shampoo free over the summer and moved to using natural products. I’m now using a shampoo and conditioner by Rocky Mountain Soap that is sulphate free. I have fine thin hair and going chemical free has made my hair thicker and less staticky 🙂

I would love to run Victoria one day! It is so beautiful there and I hear it is a fantastic event.
I liked Kelowna because I thought I would have enough time for a really good training cycle coming off the Calgary 70.3 at the end of July. Also with my parents being there that helps to make the trip a bit less expensive!
I’m interested in your hair regime! I tried to cut down my shampooing a few years ago but I found my hair didn’t really adapt the way I had hoped.

We will be in Kelowna! The Husband wants to run 42km for his 42nd. See you there! Good luck this weekend!
