Last week Neil, Peat and I headed off to Kelowna for a bit of vacation time! It was also a great opportunity for me to get in some quality swim/bike/run training as well. Peat didn’t understand that Kelowna is one hour behind Calgary so he was ready and excited to start his day at 4 am. Thanks buddy!
We had a lovely stay with my folks and it also happened to be my Dad’s birthday while we were there. It was great to see Finlay too. At 14.5 years old he is definitely slowing down and showing his age but he’s still such a sweet little guy.
Peat got a hair cut while we were there! I can’t get over how handsome this guy looks.
While we were in the Okanagan we sampled some great wines and ate some delicous food. The Okanagan Valley is BC’s largest wine growing region and there are some fantastic wines coming out of here. Most of the wineries are so small (say in comparison to ones in Napa) that you will rarely see BC wines exported outside of Canada. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t some quality wine out here though!
If you are planning a trip out that way I’d highly recommend visiting the following for wine tasting:
- Tinhorn Creek (Oliver)
- Black Hills Winery (Oliver – budget an hour or two for this one as you sit on the patio and relax as you run through their portfolio)
- Painted Rock Estate Winery (Penticton)
- JoieFarm Winery (Naramata)
If you are looking for some great places to eat at in Kelowna we had some great meals at:
All in all it was a great time visiting my parents, celebrating my Dad’s birthday and enjoying some seriously hot weather. The week flew by!
Recap of my own personal training camp to come! Today I’m joining Tara from Running ‘N’ Reading for her Weekend Update Link Up.
Have you ever been wine touring in the Okanagan? Or in the US?
Wine tastings are the best!
Looks amazing. Never been.

Sounds like a great wkend. Wineries are always so fun. We gave our labs a shave the other wk bc of the summer heat. It’s only hair so it’ll grow back, unfortunately. ..haha.
