Coming Soon: The St. John Ambulance Run and Walk for LIFE!

August 10, 2015 By: Runner Leana

If any of my Calgary friends are looking for a race to add to their schedule, the third annual St. John Ambulance Run and Walk for LIFE! is taking place at Eau Claire Market in Calgary on August 23rd!

Chances are if you have ever taken first aid or CPR it might have been through the St. John Ambulance.  St. John Ambulance is a not for profit organization that provides non-denominational community services and training in First Aid, CPR and other life saving skills.  Proceeds from the race will help to support their more than 600 volunteers in Alberta, ensure up to date training and will help with the purchase of new equipment.

There will be a 10K and a 5K run, a 5K walk.  The event will be chip timed and you are even welcome to bring your four legged best friend to run or walk with you.  David’s Tea, Spolumbo’s Sausages and Cookies By George will be there with treats for all the participants.  There will also be a huge host of giveaway prizes including dinner at NOtaBLE, tickets to the Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival, a getaway to Banff, and gift cards to the Aussie Rules Piano Bar, Chinook Centre, Oasis Spa and Riverside Fitness.

Registration is just $37.50 or you can purchase a bulk pack of 5 registrations for $175.  Kids under 15 can enter for free.  REGISTER HERE.

Make it a family event and support a great cause!  If you can’t attend the race you can still register as a virtual runner and you have the opportunity to win some great prizes.

Funny enough, I’m taking a first aid course that weekend and have to miss the race.

What a great cause. I have first aid/cpr/aed certification since I teach group fitness classes and personal train. Have a great race!

I saw that race! The funny thing is… I’ve started running again for the first time since I did those bootcamps before I got married. I’m using a couch-to-5k app, and I’m actually enjoying myself! (Maybe because I’m still in the run-walk phase). I’ve been thinking about signing up for a 5k in August – I won’t be done the c25k thing at that point, but those are my last few non-working weekends before the crazy starts. I’ve been trying to decide between something that weekend, or the last weekend in August, to give myself a little more time to work into it.

Whenever I’m tired and sweaty after a half-hour run/walk, I think about you doing Ironmans, and tell myself to get over it!
