This weekend I decided to add another race to the calendar for fun…the Stoked for Oats 5K hosted by Tri It.
For $25 you’d get a flat and fast 5K to run, followed by a warm bowl of Stoked Oats post race to help refuel you. My coach moved a few workouts around so I’d be able to just race the 5K on Sunday but my legs had a pretty big week of workouts in them and they were pretty tired!
I got to Tri It about 30 minutes before the race and had enough time to go to the bathroom and run through as many Little Wing warm up exercises as I could remember.
It was a cool morning but the sun was shining, and the pathways were clear of snow and ice. You can’t ask for better conditions on November 1st in Calgary!
Stoked Oats 5K Race Report
At 9:30 am we were off! I had my watch set to just show elevation again, so I had no idea how fast I was running. We spread out fairly early on so there were no issues with the run pathway being crowded. The first mile clicked off in 8:33. When I hit the turnaround at Edworthy Park my legs were feeling pretty tired but I tried to suck it up and tell myself that this was the whole point of 5Ks…to hurt!
Mile 2 clicked off in 8:56. I kept telling myself that I had less than 10 minutes to hurt but I still had to take two super fast walk breaks in the final mile. Once I could see the finish line off in the distance I tried to dig deep and make those legs turn over just a little bit faster. Mile 3 done in 9:14…3.1 miles done in 27:50.
I’m pretty sure I left everything out there on the race today. I pushed hard! After the race I made my way back over to Tri It to get a bowl of Stoked Oats.
Post-Race Rambles
They had Bucking-Eh Oats (oats, apples, black currents, mulberries and chia seeds) and Stone Age Oats (oats, almonds, walnuts, flax and chia) to try.
I went with the Bucking-Eh Oats and then made my way over to the topping bar! The awesome volunteers were serving up peanut butter, bananas, raisins and brown sugar, plus there was coconut and almond milk to add.
Delicious! I had a seat by the fire pit and chatted with some other runners.
Tri It has a whole host of other fun runs planned over the next few months. Perhaps I’ll see you at the Crave Chick Chaser 5 Miler in February? How can you say no to a fun run with a Crave Cupcake at the end? Check out my race report from 2013 if you’d like to know more!
Congrats!! Awesome race and a delicious way to finish!!

Thanks Leigh! I’d definitely recommend the Chick Chaser race in February if you are looking for a shorter, fun race to do early next year!
