Hello and happy new year everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday. Our holidays were lovely as Neil and I spent Christmas in New York!
We flew into New York on December 22nd and immediately started to get settled into our rental apartment. On our last trip we stayed in a hotel, but based on Jen’s suggestion we booked an apartment through VRBO this time. We stayed in a studio apartment on the Upper West Side, close to Central Park, Trader Joe’s and the American Natural History Museum.
The neighbourhood felt much more relaxed away from much of the touristy hustle and bustle. It was also really nice to have a more homey place to stay with a kitchenette.
Over our holiday, here are a few of the sights we saw:
The weather on December 24th was so warm and perfect for wandering around outside. We made our way to the Winter Village at Bryant Park to see the Christmas tree. We spent some time exploring the little shops and were actually able to get up close to the tree!
Unlike the tree at Rockefeller Center later in our trip!
What do you do on Christmas Day when most things are closed? Go to the movies! We saw the brand new Star Wars movie and it was awesome!
Star Wars and the Power of Costume
Continuing on with our Star Wars geekery we visited the Power of Costume exhibit at Discovery Times Square. The majority of the costumes were from Episodes 1, 2 and 3 and were just stunning to look at. Too bad those movies were not very good…
The American Natural History Museum
We picked a cool and rainy day to visit the Natural History Museum and it was incredibly busy! It was a little overwhelming and was difficult to really enjoy the exhibits but the museum is always worth a visit.
The Dark Matter space show was great!
This was our first time visiting the Tenement Museum and we took the Shop Life guided tour on the ground floor of 97 Orchard Street. The tour was fantastic and I wish we would have had more time for another tour.
We visited the Peanuts themed holiday windows at Macy’s and they were so cute!
We also walked by Lord and Taylor and their displays were really pretty…however the mannequin walking these geese was interesting…
New York feels like a magical place during the holidays and we had a great time. Coming up I’ll share some of our eats and drinks and some workouts I did while in New York!
Have you visited New York? What was your favourite thing to do there?
I’m so glad you liked the Air BnB, I think it’s a way better way to travel. Christmas in New York would be amazing. I loved following along on Instagram.

We have definitely converted to being VRBO fans! It was a much better way to enjoy the city versus being in a hotel.

Love NYC – it’s always fun to go and visit. I like to take in a show while I’m in town 🙂
Did you ever get that deja vu feeling? That you look around, and suddenly realized you’d seen this street on a movie or TV show? I had that happen in London several times.
Never been to New York. If i go, I totally have to do the Empire State building.

I loved following your trip on IG! I have always wanted to go to NY at Christmas, so I got to live vicariously through you. We used VRBO when we were there for the marathon and loved it! It is such a nice way to go.
