Good morning friends and welcome to my very first Thinking Out Loud post for 2016! Today I’m linking up with Amanda from Running With Spoons to share some random thoughts this Thursday.
There is a part of me that misses being in New York. I loved the hustle and bustle. The organized chaos of crossing the street. Riding the subway everywhere. All of the delicious coffee.
But being at home and hanging out with this guy? That’s pretty awesome.
These videos of real chefs cooking dumb recipes are hilarious.
One of my non-athletic goals for this year is to read more. I’ve set a target of twelve books for the year, which compared to some of my friends on Goodreads is not that much. Considering I only read three books last year I think twelve sounds like a pretty good target. I’m currently reading Chrissie Wellington’s A Life Without Limits: A World Champion’s Journey.
Marathon training is heating up just as the temperatures are starting to cool down. My biggest concern about training for a marathon at the end of February is how the cold and snow might impact long runs. I’ll be running 18.5 miles this weekend and luckily it looks like Sunday should be some good long running weather.
I’m feeling crazy sleep deprived today. Spin class started up again last night and our workouts are now 2 hours long. By the time I get home, have a snack, unwind and go to bed it winds up being not very many hours until my 4:xx am alarm clock goes off for my Thursday morning swim. Yawn!
Waking up to an Instagram feed full of RunDisney 5K race pictures was pretty fun though. It is hard to believe that a year we were there running the 5K in freezing cold weather!
On that note, have a wonderful Thursday everyone!!
Something that worked for Michelle when she was doing crazy long runs training for 50K, was to have buddies meet her for part of the run. That helps break things up, and allows you to refuel without having to carry it, or stash something. Of course, that run buddy has to be reliable, with a capital R! It was fun to meet up with her, run for as much as I could, then watch her carry on. Consider new locations. Lots of Fish Creek is sheltered from the wind by trees, and the paths are plowed. Have you read The Night Circus by Morgenstern? Highly recommended.

Thanks for your book suggestion Keith! I actually have had that book on my Goodreads list from almost day one but I’m not sure why I haven’t actually read it yet. Well, apart from the fact that I haven’t read that much lately… I will try to read that one next!
And that is a great idea about getting friends to help run bits and pieces of long runs. Luckily my friend Tara is training for Boston so she’s kept me company on my last couple of long runs and it has helped to push me outside my comfort zone a bit more. I’ll have to keep that in mind for my next few runs in case I can’t run with Tara.

I haven’t been to NYC in… well… probably something like 26 years 😆 But I’d love to see it again now that I’m old enough to actually appreciate all the amazing things the city has to offer!
