Thinking Out Loud Thursday

January 29, 2015 By: Runner Leana

It is Thursday which means it is time to share some randomness on the internet…aka Thinking Out Loud Thursday!  Thanks to Amanada at Running With Spoons for hosting us!Thinking-Out-Loud

Last week my husband was out of town for work for a few nights.  That meant that Peat was absolutely spoiled in his absence and got to sleep on the bed every night.  Peat loved it.IMG_9926

I also took the opportunity to make some vegetarian meals while I was bacheloring it.  After a vacation full of rich foods I felt the need for some lighter, vegetable-centric meals.  I discovered so many delicious recipes via Cookie and Kate that I was itching to make.  First up I tried the Roasted Veg and Crispy Baked Tofu with a Honey Sesame Glaze.IMG_9922

The tofu was delicious!  Next up I tried the Roasted Cauliflower and Farro Salad with Feta.  I went a little heavy on the feta, but again this dish was another winner.IMG_9929

While parts of North America were experiencing heavy snowfalls and blizzards things in Calgary this past weekend were downright spring like.  It was lovely out there.  Not to worry though, the temperatures are set to drop and the snow will be flying here this weekend.IMG_9941

After two or three years of growing out my hair I was finally over it.  My hair is so fine and thin that it doesn’t really look like much when it is long.  I got tired of my scraggly pony tail and chopped off about five inches or so?Hair Cut

I had to make a road trip to Edmonton for the day this week.  It turns out that a nearly empty jar of peanut butter with overnight oats is a perfect road trip breakfast.IMG_9963

Our meeting in Edmonton was in a dog friendly office.  It was really neat to see a couple of dogs hanging out there.  I love the idea of bringing your pet to work…I wonder what Peat would think of that.

So Target is pulling out of Canada…womp, womp.  The curtain rods I used to hang my race medals up in my pain cave are from Target.  After hanging up my 2015 Disney Marathon medals space is starting to get tight.  IMG_9977

I was thrilled to find a matching curtain rod at Target last night so that I can expand my race medal display in the future.  I’m thinking possibly under the picture frames on the wall in front of my bike.

Tell me something random from your week!  Do you work in a dog friendly office?  Will you miss Target in Canada?

Sadly Target in Canada is nowhere near as awesome as Target in the US is. I think that is part of why they were so unsuccessful here. They’ve only been in business here for two years I think? Apparently the best case scenario for them to be profitable in Canada would have been in around six years. Ouch!

Hasn’t the weather been crazy beautiful lately?! It really makes the loooong winters a whole lot easier to bear when we get this nice (3 week!!!) break in the middle. But yeah… things are getting a little sour again. Le boo. And I say good riddance to Target. It was a poor man’s version of the Target in the States, and after the initial excitement wore off, I don’t think I ever set foot in there again. That’s what they get for half-assing it 😡

The weather has been absolutely amazing…although apparently winter will be back with a vengeance tomorrow. Oh no!

I agree, Target here was nowhere near as good. I think part of their mistake was taking over the old Zellers spaces. The old, outdated stores that were too small to turn into supercenters or the spaces in malls just made no sense. They would have been better off building brand new big box stores but I guess Walmart has the market cornered on that up here?

I never really fell in love with Canadian Target. I think that mainly had to do with the fact we don’t have one in Lethbridge. I’ll definitely try and get to one before they close for good though!! (HELLO SALES!!)

Your hair looks awesome! I go through stages of chopping mine, loving it, getting bored, growing it out and repeat.

      Thanks Kaella!

When I popped into the Target here this week there wasn’t really a ton of inventory. If they do have big closing sales I can’t imagine it will go on for long. There just isn’t that much stuff to sell.

Target is my happy place! Can you still order online for delivery to Canada? If not, I can ship you what you need! 🙂

Thanks for the offer Marilyn! Target in the US is way better…so I can definitely get how that is your happy place! I think that right now they don’t offer online shipping to Canada, but I’m hoping maybe they will open that option up when they close their store down. If not I’ll just try and get a visit in whenever I go to the US!

How can Target leave?!?! That is crazy! I love me some Target, I don’t know what I would do (besides move to another country if it happened LOL).

Love the medal display! My medals get all jumbled up on my display holder 🙁

Thanks Kathy! I was looking for different medal display ideas on pinterest ages ago and I saw the curtain rod suggestion pop up. It works great!

We haven’t had Target that long in Canada and they were never the same kind of store here as it is in the US. Very poor selection, bare shelves and they really don’t cary the same product. I was so sad that it wasn’t the same! I think that was a common sentiment and for why they were never profitable here.

That’s so crazy that Target is leaving Canada! I think I would have to move. Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts!
