2016… It started off with a bang and is ending with a fizzle. In January I was crushing high mileage weeks in preparation for February’s Phoenix Marathon. In December I’m slowly building fitness after taking an extended break after Ironman Boulder. Even though running is a bit of a challenge right now, 2016 deserves to be remembered for some epic accomplishments.
Best race experience: I got sick right before the Phoenix Marathon and didn’t have the day I trained for. I felt like my body and my mind let me down on that day. Why would Phoenix be my best race experience of the year? What I remember from that race are the cheers, encouragement and love I from my friends back home when things were really hard. I’m so lucky to have a wonderful support system of friends.
Best run: I have a lot of fond memories of running in Calgary but I’m pinching myself that I get to run around the beautiful seawall here in Vancouver.
Best new piece of running gear: The Oiselle Vigor Vest is a lightweight layering piece great in cool, wet, windy weather.
Best running advice you’ve received this year: This isn’t new advice I got this year but it is still my favourite piece of advice. Love Heather Wurtele!
Most inspirational runner: Every single person that fits training into their busy lives and is able to crush their goals (like Lindsay who has two kids, a full time job and BQ’d her very first marathon).
Favourite picture from a run or race this year:
Race experience you would repeat in a heartbeat: In October I ran my first Vancouver Rock ‘n’ Roll race. The half marathon course is stunning and I loved the RnR race vibe. I enjoyed it so much I signed up for the 2017 race the very next day.
If you could sum up your year of running in a couple of words what would they be and why: Challenging!
I’m linking up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC to share my Year of Running. How would you sum up your year of running?

Love this! What a year you have had – changing cities, job/school, racing, etc. I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings!
Thank you so much Marilyn! It has been a crazy year but one full of growth and opportunities even if running has had to take a back seat for the moment.
